Sneads Ferry King Mackerel Tournament


In addition to fishing on your own, Onslow County is also home to various fishing tournaments, such as this month’s 24th Annual Sneads Ferry King Mackerel Fishing Tournament on August 14th-15th. Avid fishermen take to the waters to fish this annual event in anticipation of taking home the big prize. The king mackerel are feisty here in eastern North Carolina and can weigh a whopping 100 pounds! There are several categories fishermen and women can enter, each with a claim to fame. The party isn’t limited to fishing but also includes a delicious Captain’s Dinner where participants can mingle with one another and trade the age old “fish that got away” stories.
