The Christmas season is upon us and if you’re looking for Christmas activities in Onslow County, there’s no shortage of festive parades, family fun runs, visits with Santa and so much more!

Festival of Lights at Mike’s Farm – Take a 30-minute hayride through thousands of twinkling lights and a live nativity scene, while sipping hot chocolate and singing your favorite Christmas carols. This annual tradition happens nightly until December 23rd, with encore presentations on December 26th and 27th. Don’t forget to stop by the gift store and bakery for stocking stuffers and mouthwatering treats.

Physical Therapy Clinic Merry Fitness 5K – Race to fitness and celebrate the end of the running season for Girls on the Run, STRIDE of Coastal Carolina, and Heart and Sole at the Merry Fitness 5K on December 5th at Jacksonville Commons. Register today and join over 500 young boys and girls as they celebrate the year’s accomplishments and look forward to another exciting race season in 2016.

Winterfest – An annual celebration that sprinkles real snow and good cheer on Riverwalk Park will be happening on December 5th, 2015. Children and families can flock to downtown Jacksonville to enjoy festive children’s games, ice sculptures, holiday entertainment, food, hayrides, train rides and more! In addition, kids can have their picture taken with Santa before touring Santa’s Workshop. Did we mention there will be sledding with real snow, our annual tree lighting and the always awe-inspiring Flotilla on the New River! Join us as Onslow County becomes a true winter wonderland.

In addition to these exciting outdoor winter activities, there will also be a Holiday Arts & Crafts Show, Local Idol Talent Show, and Gingerbread Competition held Friday through Sunday at the Jacksonville Commons. You won’t want to miss a minute of the Christmas action this weekend!

Living Christmas Tree Concert Series – Come out and support your local schools at the Marine Chevrolet Cadillac’s annual concert series. This fun event happens at Marine Chevy and brings together choral groups from across Onslow County as they perform your favorite Christmas carols and sell baked goods in an effort to raise funds for their school’s music program. Give back and get in the holiday spirit every evening from December 7th – 10th.

A Very Merry Military Christmas – Embrace the season with a good old-fashioned Christmas variety show at the oldest USO in Jacksonville NC. This variety show has something for every member of the family and features spectacular singers, dancers, comedy and heart warming tributes. Start a new Onslow County Christmas tradition and join Jacksonville Performing Arts at this wonderful Christmas extravaganza. Purchase tickets here for the December 11th and 12th show:

Naughty and Nice 5K – Whether you’re on the naughty or nice list, everyone is welcome at the Naughty and Nice 5K on December 12th aboard Camp Lejeune. Bring your bells and Santa hat (we’d advise against elf shoes, we hear they’re uncomfortable) and race through the streets of Camp Lejeune while humming along to your favorite Christmas songs. How often can you run alongside America’s elite fighting force while wearing reindeer antlers? Register here.

Breakfast with Gunny Claus – No one understands the military life and missing loved ones at Christmas quite like retired Gunny Claus of 1st Reindeer Division. Therefore, he will be visiting with military children, dressed in Santa’s finest dress blues, on December 12th. Gunny Claus is very busy with plenty of kids to see, so registration is required. Sign up here.

Wreaths Across America – Honor those who are no longer with us by laying a wreath upon their headstone, letting everyone know they are not forgotten this Christmas season. As part of Wreaths Across America, local citizens will be placing wreaths at the Coastal State Veterans Ceremony, following a moving ceremony on December 12th at 12:00pm. If you would like, you may sponsor a wreath by clicking here.

Holiday Pops with the North Carolina Symphony – The North Carolina Symphony’s Holiday Pops is a musical tradition that will fill your heart with cheer. “Yule” love everything this all-new concert has to offer, from your holiday features to selections from family favorites, The Polar Express and Frozen. Reserve your seats at this Only In Onslow Christmas event on December 10th at Jacksonville High School.

Richlands Annual Lighted Christmas Parade – The quaint town of Richlands will be buzzing with Christmas cheer during their annual Christmas Parade on December 12th. Come line the streets and watch decorated floats pass by while singing along to Christmas tunes and awaiting Santa’s arrival at the end of the parade! Don’t miss this family-friendly holiday tradition in downtown Richlands.

Richlands Jingle Dash 5K – Celebrate the end of the racing season in Onslow County at the area’s last race, the Richlands Jingle Dash 5K on December 19th! Not only does this race mean we are one week closer to Christmas, it’s for a great cause. Come and and support Ainsley’s Angels (if you’ve run a race in Onslow County, you know all about these incredible runners) and give back during the Season of Giving. Register for this race today.

No matter which Onslow County Christmas activity you choose to do, or if you choose to do them all, celebrate this magical season by giving back, racing for awareness, sledding in a coastal winter wonderland, dining with Gunny Claus or honoring those who are no longer with us. Christmas in Onslow County is a time for family and friends, and a little egg nog, so come together and join in the fun.
