Meet the Man Behind the Montford Point Marine Memorial & Museum

Onslow - Faces of Travel - Houstan Shinal - Montford Point Marines - REV1

What brought you to Onslow County?

The Marine Corps brought me to Onslow County. However, it has been the relationships I’ve developed over the years with so many if its citizens, both military and civilian, that caused me to stay.

What is the fuel behind your passion for the museum and memorial?

The fuel behind my passion for the museum and memorial has been my personal interactions with many of the Montford Point Marines. Reading about historical and life changing events in a book is a good way to develop a passion for something.  But, to have the opportunity to get to know many of the icons personally, to hear their stories first hand, changes a passion in to a love.

What is your favorite part?

My favorite part is seeing the expression on their face as the talk about their past experiences and being able to take part in the pride they bring to the title Marine.
